Adapted Jelly Roll Quilt (now titled the Four Corners Quilt)
The tutorial I had originally written for this quilt top did not have enough details. So, it is under construction. Please feel free to leave a comment with your email address if you want to be alerted when I finish the tutorial. The new tutorial is finally up! Check it out
here.
I love jelly roll race quilts and have made a TON of them as gifts! I actually just started working on a similar variation of it, too! I've got three started where I plan to proceed as normal until the quilt is *8* strips wide, then cut the looooong strip into squares. I plan to take those squares, then alternate how they're oriented (some with the strips vertical, some horizontal) and add sashing between them. I haven't done sashing before so I think it'll be a good skill builder and a fun variation on this quick, easy quilt :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing - and for the pat on the back about someone else having a similar idea to me!
Hey are we getting any closer with the directions????? I would like to get started.
DeleteI've never had a jelly roll to make on of those quilts but it sounds fun!! Yours looks great and well done for chopping it up, the quarters look perfect :)
ReplyDeletewow! that's a lot of crazy sewing fun!!
ReplyDeleteyour quilt top is gorgeous!!
i like how you broke up the color sections.
I've heard of a JR race but never realised it was a pattern rather than a 'ready, steady, go!' type of thing! Yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteI just heard about the JRR quilts yesterday and finished mine today - also in Boutique! I like the way you divided it into quarters with the strips going different directions. I can't decide if I want to try it or leave it as it is. Your quilt is lovely though, and a great inspiration to try something different. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh this is fun!!!! Thanks for sharing!! Seriously I'm going to try this.
ReplyDeleteOk I have one question, why did you add five? Am I missing something. I thought the jrr was just a jelly roll.
ReplyDeletei love the quilt, but how did you sew the center block to the four square block sections. I'm not getting it?????? Why do you need the extra strips?????
ReplyDeletethanks for your comment, silverdog. (you are listed as a no reply blogger, so i can't email you directly.) you ask a good question. i'll admit that i was lazy when writing this. i plan to post an improved tutorial in the next couple of days, so stay tuned.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, this is the only jelly roll "race" quilt worthy of a jelly roll. I love it, but so confused on how to construct. Making for my son's girlfriend for college in September. I am trying to figure out how to get you my email address.
ReplyDeletenow I figured out the email. Why 5 extra stips and how to sew the center square to the big square blocks?
