She calls it the My Precious Quiltalong and she's doing a summer monthly giveaway on her blog to encourage fabric lovers to bust out the rotary cutters.
Who knew that I was starting on this quiltalong early? In making my Farmer's Wife blocks I decided in the beginning to cut into and use all of my favorites in this quilt.
Many of these prints have only been cut for this project only. I love using all of my favorite text, graphic, hard to find, out of print, and Japanese prints. And little 6.5" blocks are the perfect way to use them without going into a panic that I may run out.
Favorite designers like Suzuko Koseki, Denyse Schmidt, Heather Ross, Kumiko Fujita, and Anna Maria Horner will make a number of appearances in this quilt.
I also have lovely bits from swaps with flickr friends. Some are fabrics that I never would have been able to find otherwise.
I'm cranking out the sashing on these precious blocks. I hope to have a finished Farmer's Wife quilt top next
What precious resource have you used lately? (fabric, yarn, peanut butter cookies, etc.)
Oh my gosh, you have out done yourself woman!! I love the sashing fabric you used and I love every piece of fabric in these as you put them all together perfect!! WHAT A QUILT!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big saver so everything pretty much gets used :)
This is just completely incredible, Melinda! You have such a gift for fabric selection. I cannot wait to see the finished quilt!
ReplyDeleteIt's so exciting to see the sashing going on these! I love the colour you've chosen. What a treasure you're making :)
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh I love it!!! It just gets better at every step :) How lovely to enjoy your favorites all together like that, what a smile-inducing quilt!
ReplyDeleteThe gray sashing is awesome! Is it a black crossweave?
ReplyDeleteI took the challenge as well and cut into wonderland. I also repurposed some Mendocino that I had used to make my daughter a skirt that no longer fit. Your blocks are awesome - I love the mix of fabrics. I really want to get some of those text fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI love how the background fabric makes the blocks pop! Very nice..
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! I *love* your sashing fabric!! Once I'm through gift-giving week I am going to start sashing my blocks too :)
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is looking awesome! Love how the fabrics pop against the gray - and such a good gray!
ReplyDeleteIt's looking soooo pretty! I just love the sashing color, and the way it makes the blocks shine!
ReplyDeleteI adore that gray sashing fabric! The texture to it is just perfect, and really makes your blocks stand out.
ReplyDeleteI have so enjoyed each and everyone of your blocks as they made an appearance. And even though I loved them (and some of the quirky fabric choices) I couldn't really imagine what they would look like together. Now that I can start to see how it is going to look - all I can say is WOW! Do you think that sort of setting would also work for larger sampler blocks (like the Sew Mama Sew modern BOM?).
ReplyDeleteOh my I can see what you're doing there and I am so excited! I LOVE that setting for the farmer's wife blocks.
ReplyDeleteThey are looking stunning and as Felicity says, your setting is perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove your farmer's wife quilt. Can't wait to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, this is looking amazing so far!!!
ReplyDeletethis is going to be the coolest quilt ever. i love each and every print. i am taking a similar approach to my "precious" quilt. just small bits of my most favorite of favorites. and lots from online swappy friends.
ReplyDeleteIt is looking awesome. I love your sashing fabric. Can't wait to see it finished
ReplyDeleteI'm about to cut into my precious stash of "Echo"! I have found the perfect pattern (I hope!)
ReplyDeleteI love how you're alternating with blocks set on point. The sashing really makes those colors pop!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are really special - very nice!!
ReplyDeleteI just love the alternating straight and on point arrangement of your FWS quilt! the individual shashing looks great, and for me it would solve the problem of some blocks being a tad off size...
ReplyDeletei love this quilt so much. but you already knew that.
ReplyDeletei just thought i'd mention it again because every time i see even a glimpse of your fwq i get all goo-goo for it again.
Oh, this is just too scrumptious! Cutting into my precious Japanese fabrics was hard at first, but now I'm totally into it. Not big pieces, mind you, but lots of 'em. Lol. Love this quilt!
