A bit frantic

We are moving soon. I've lived in Wisconsin all of my life, and now we will be making the big move to Maryland, perhaps as soon as the beginning of December.  I always like to close up loose ends by the end of the year, but packing up an entire house in a matter of less than three weeks is a bit much.  So today's post is a jumbled mess of about four posts all jammed together so I can focus on packing for the rest of the week.

First up is my sunglasses block for Tamiko in the Ringo Pie Bee.  She asked for Magnum P.I. themed blocks.  This block was due in June, but it took me quite awhile to find the right fabrics and the right techniques to achieve my vision for this block.  I hope she loves it as much as I do.

Next up is a recent distraction.  I've been collecting fabrics and perusing patterns for a quilt for Ben for many months now.  He is a mathematician and a birder.  He loves camping, patterns and lists and taking notes about the birds he sees.  I fell in love with Leila's Boy's Nonsense tutorial for the Value Added project and everything came together perfectly.

I made eight blocks this weekend and now I'll have to pack them all up to save for another sewing day after the move.

My Trim the Tree Ornament Swap mittens are done.  I added a little detail work with size 8 perle cotton.  I hope my partners like them.

And you saw this quilt a couple of weeks ago.  It will be traveling to...

...the Pine Ridge Reservation along with the quilt below to keep a couple of babies warm this winter.  The quilt above was my first ever attempt at baptist fan quilting.  The one below was my second attempt.  I think things got better, but I still need a lot of practice.

Okay, I'm off to pack up my sewing and crafting mess into boxes.  I'll have to save a few hand projects and maybe a couple of other tidbits to work on.

Oh, that quilt will be perfect for Ben! And I am crossing my fingers that one of the mittens might be for me. Wow, you have such a huge move ahead of you. It brings you closer to me though :) I hope you like our coast and that the transition is as smooth as possible.

Dang it! Move to Houston!

I love all of your projects. The baptist fans on the green are just lovely.

Happy Moving! You know I can relate the frantic anxious feelings that moving brings. ;)

I know you think 3 weeks isn't much time, but I've moved in three weeks three different times. It's really better because you can start packing without worrying so much about whether you'll need something soon. You pretty much know if you'll need it in 3 weeks. Take the time to weed out BEFORE you pack! Mark you boxes and celebrate every time you tape one shut! You can do it!

Ben's quilt is fabulous as are Magnum's sunglasses. I send you all kinds of best wishes for your move. I personally love moving BUT I've never had to do it with a kid underfoot. I numbered every box and kept a separate list of everything that went into it so I could find things again quickly.

What? You did baptist fan on your domestic? I thought that was near impossible! Your sunglasses block is so cool. I know I owe you your farmer's market block too, which is next on my list. Your teeny mittens are so awesome. I'd love to get one! I hope packing goes well for the move and that your little guy is handling the changes okay.

Wow - if I'm ever in a swap/bee - I hope you are in it too! You are so creative and clever, and creative and clever... Now how did you do that baptist fan quilting - is it by hand or machine, and did you mark it? Now, wishing you all the best quilty wishes for your move, I'm sure it will fine and once you're there, will wonder what you were ever worried about.

Wow - what a big move!!! Good luck with all you packing and preparations.

I love your little mittens. The hand work on them really makes them special.

Good luck with the packing and the move. I hope it doesn't disrupt your little guy too much. I pray that he will adjust well to your new home!

I love the quilt you've started, the prints really speak to me. I moved from the Midwest to Maryland (right outside DC) about four years ago now. One plus side, winters are much milder, and when they do get snow everyone goes crazy because they don't know how to handle it. I tend to sit back and watch the crazy unfold and get a good chuckle in. :)

Hope all goes well with the move and things go as smoothly as possible! All of your projects are amazing! Especially the quilt for your son! Although it is hard to decide between the awesome sunglass block and teeny mittens too!
