My Precious

Kelly of kelbysews started a group on flickr to encourage people to cut into their hoarded stashed fabrics that otherwise sit in a pristine stack in the corner of their sewing space.

She calls it the My Precious Quiltalong and she's doing a summer monthly giveaway on her blog to encourage fabric lovers to bust out the rotary cutters.

Who knew that I was starting on this quiltalong early?  In making my Farmer's Wife blocks I decided in the beginning to cut into and use all of my favorites in this quilt.

Many of these prints have only been cut for this project only.  I love using all of my favorite text, graphic, hard to find, out of print, and Japanese prints. And little 6.5" blocks are the perfect way to use them without going into a panic that I may run out.

Favorite designers like Suzuko Koseki, Denyse Schmidt, Heather Ross, Kumiko Fujita, and Anna Maria Horner will make a number of appearances in this quilt.

I also have lovely bits from swaps with flickr friends.  Some are fabrics that I never would have been able to find otherwise.

I'm cranking out the sashing on these precious blocks. I hope to have a finished Farmer's Wife quilt top next week month.

What precious resource have you used lately?  (fabric, yarn, peanut butter cookies, etc.)

The gray sashing is awesome! Is it a black crossweave?

I took the challenge as well and cut into wonderland. I also repurposed some Mendocino that I had used to make my daughter a skirt that no longer fit. Your blocks are awesome - I love the mix of fabrics. I really want to get some of those text fabrics.

I adore that gray sashing fabric! The texture to it is just perfect, and really makes your blocks stand out.

I have so enjoyed each and everyone of your blocks as they made an appearance. And even though I loved them (and some of the quirky fabric choices) I couldn't really imagine what they would look like together. Now that I can start to see how it is going to look - all I can say is WOW! Do you think that sort of setting would also work for larger sampler blocks (like the Sew Mama Sew modern BOM?).

I love how you're alternating with blocks set on point. The sashing really makes those colors pop!

Your blocks are really special - very nice!!

I just love the alternating straight and on point arrangement of your FWS quilt! the individual shashing looks great, and for me it would solve the problem of some blocks being a tad off size...

i just thought i'd mention it again because every time i see even a glimpse of your fwq i get all goo-goo for it again.

Oh, this is just too scrumptious! Cutting into my precious Japanese fabrics was hard at first, but now I'm totally into it. Not big pieces, mind you, but lots of 'em. Lol. Love this quilt!
